Bronze statue of a she‑wolf nursing two infants, representing Romulus and Remus, displayed on a wooden shelf against a rustic plaster wall with stone columns on each side.

At the heart of our Grey Lynn restaurant stands a remarkable she-wolf sculpture, La Lupa, tending to the infant twins Romulus and Remus — an iconic emblem of Roman mythology.

This iconic image has long represented the city of Rome and its legendary origins, and it now has a home where it inspires every meal we serve.

According to the myth, Romulus and Remus were the sons of a god and a mortal. Left to float in a basket along the Tiber River by a fearful chieftain, they might have perished — if not for La Lupa. The she-wolf rescued the twins, sheltering them in her care, and set them on the path that would lead Romulus to found the city of Rome.

Through a remarkable journey, this authentic sculpture found its way to our restaurant. We honor the she-wolf and her legendary charge, as well as the generous soul who gifted it to us. It’s more than art; it’s a reminder of resilience, myth, and the stories that connect us, much like the stories told around our tables with every plate of Italian food we serve.
